Marlin Food Bank on Oaks a Success
In cooperation with the Central Texas Food Bank, the Marlin Lions Club and Falls County Samaritan House hosted their monthly food bank truck at a new location on April 24.
Located behind the Marlin Chamber of Commerce, cars lined Oaks street starting as early as 7:30 a.m. Residents sat for hours waiting to be blessed with non-perishables and fresh produce.
Both the Falls County Sheriff's Office and Marlin Police Department were on site, directing traffic, blocking off nearby streets, and helping to distribute food among cars.
“I think it turned out real good,” said Michael Magouirk, with the Marlin Lions Club.
Two full truckloads of food were distributed among countless individuals and families from the community. Volunteers from the three above named organizations, along with countless other community supporters came out to help.
Officials say the food drive will take place again on May 22 at the same location from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drivers are to line up on Oaks Street starting at Chambers street and snake back until turning onto the east side of Capps Street.
