DKG Society International welcomes new member
It is Spring!
“Every flower of every tomorrow is in the seeds of today.” (Anonymous) So it is as members of the 89-year-young Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International gathered into it another new friend for life and the future of the chapter.
On March 9, 2024, Cynthia Derry was inducted into Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an international society for key women educators. In the induction ceremony led by Beta Nu Chapter Vice President Shirley Wilson, Cynthia Derry accepted the offer to a lifelong association with other women educators engaged in the shared pursuit of common interests, goals and ideals.
Delta Kappa Gamma members include classroom teachers, college and university professors, Deans of Education, administrators and supervisors, librarians and educational specialists.
The nurturing environment of the Society encourages all members to grow and reach the highest levels of professional and personal accomplishments their many unique talents allow. Members are committed to fulfilling their potential for greatness, for creativity, leadership, and service through appropriate programs of action.
The Society has more than 100,000 members belonging to over 2900 chapters located in Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Guatemala, Iceland, Mexico, Norway, Puerto Rico, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States of America.
Each member has access to a limitless sphere of influence. Cynthia Derry shares, “My passion now is to bridge the learning gap between having a book in your hands versus relying entirely on electronics. I am working in academia in our penal system in order to provide the best education to those who yearn to recapture the education they forfeited due to unfortunate circumstances. Providing an education to the parents that I currently teach will also positively impact future generations.”
Local chapter members have many commonalities in backgrounds and interests. Beta Nu Chapter extends local outreach projects that support community needs. Its support for early-career educators reaches across generations for mentoring and classroom assistance.
State organization activities, workshops, and leadership training bring like-minded women together for networking, team building and larger area outreach programs and projects. Scholarships for further study and stipends for professional and personal growth are available to members.
Through common purposes, experiences and collaboration, members broaden their scope of education globally. This not only increases career capital, but also creates a more generous and expansive view of education as a profession. International conferences and conventions bring together members for renowned speakers, breakout sessions and camaraderie.
Millions of dollars in scholarships and grants are invested in study and projects proposed by members.
