RETIRED TEACHERS

The Falls County Chapter Retired Teachers Association will meet 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, at The Chicken Place. Membership drive incentives will be discussed.There is a misconception about membership. It’s not limited to teachers only.  Anyone who receives a monthly annuity (check) from Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is eligible to join. Lott Chili Cook-off is set for Sept. 14 in the 200 block of Gassaway Avenue in Lott. CASI Chili Cook-off for $25 per entry. Meat requirement - chili grind. COVID WALK

The Marlin TX Juneteenth Organization will sponsor its 3rd Annual  3K COVID Walk/Run Saturday, Sept. 21. The theme is “Solving Long-Haul Covid.” Participants are asked to meet and register at the Lucille Williams Pavilion at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $15 which includes a tee. The run/walk will proceed at 9 a.m. The route will travel from the Pavilion to the Courthouse. Refreshments will be available. For more information, contact Hermetta Paul at (254) 661-9340.

 

MARLIN TX JUNETEENTH 

ORGANIZATION

The Marlin TX Juneteenth Organization will meet Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Paul Funeral Home Chapel, 208 Charles Street-Marlin.

 

FAMILY PLAY DAY

Sponsored by the Faith, Hope & Charity, Concern Citizens for Youth, Inc., the Annual Family Play Day will be Saturday, Sept. 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location is 405 First Street in Marlin. KOSSEE METHODIST BAZAAR

Mark your calendar for Oct. 4 and 5 to attend the 44th annual Kosse Methodist Church Bazaar. Things will kick off Friday, Oct. 4, with a white elephant sale and continue Saturday, Oct. 5, with lots of food, a raffle with great prizes, crafts, baked goods, country kitchen, more white elephant, silent auction, live auction and even better, loads of fun and fellowship. FALLS COUNTY FARM BUREAU

It’s time once again in Falls County to map the future of agriculture for the coming year. Falls County Farm Bureau (CFB) will host its county convention at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. “Our county convention is an opportunity for members to connect, address the challenges facing agriculture and set the course for our county Farm Bureau for the upcoming year,” Renae Willberg, CFB president, said.  Falls CFB will consider policy resolutions to guide the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB)  in 2024 and elect leaders to represent Falls County farmers, ranchers and business owners. Voting delegates will also be selected to represent Falls County at the TFB annual meeting in December in Round Rock. The meeting will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Hall at 213 North 6th St in Lott.

FALLS COUNTY ARC

AMERICAN LEGION

American Legion Post #31 will be meeting in a new location at the Falls County Historical Museum, 145 Heritage Row in Marlin on the second  Monday of each month at 6 p.m. They would like to remind the public of three flag disposal locations in Marlin: Judge Jay T Elliott’s Office in the Falls County Courthouse, Marlin City Hall and the Marlin Democrat News Office. MARLIN SENIOR CENTER

Marlin Senior Center hosts dominoes from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday and Thursday; Bingo from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. The Jamboree is held every third Saturday from 6-9 p.m. There is no admission fee. The building is also available for rent. The fee is $200 a day and a $100 deposit.

 

STORY TIME

Children’s Story Time returns to the Marlin Library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

NAACP

NAACP will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hitching Post on 5029 State Hwy 7.

 

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Boys & Girls Club of Falls County has an after school program that offers things such as homework help, health and life skills, and individual tutoring. It is $20 per child. The program takes place at Marlin Elementary School. VETERANS ASSISTANCE

Caritas of Waco Inc. will be in Marlin every first and third Monday of the month as part of their Veterans Case Management Program: Assistance For Veterans / Outreach.
