City of Marlin Approves Downtown Business Renovation Grant Program to Revitalize Local Economy
Marlin, Texas – At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Marlin City Council unanimously approved the launch of the Downtown Business Renovation/Restoration Grant (DBRRG) Program, a new initiative spearheaded by the Marlin 4B Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). This grant program is designed to support property owners and businesses in revitalizing and restoring commercial spaces within the heart of downtown Marlin.
The DBRRG Program will provide a 20% matching grant—up to $10,000 per project— for qualifying renovation and restoration efforts. To be eligible, applicants must invest a minimum of $20,000 into the improvement of an existing commercial property located within the designated downtown area. Funds will be disbursed upon successful completion of the work and confirmation of compliance with all program guidelines.
“This is a major step forward in our shared effort to stimulate economic development in Marlin,” said Winston G. Williams, Director of Marketing and Economic Development. “By investing in our historic downtown, we’re not just enhancing buildings—we’re creating jobs, increasing foot traffic, and restoring pride in our community.”
Eligible improvement projects include both interior and exterior renovations, structural remodeling, landscaping, and enhancements to outdoor spaces like parking areas. Non-permanent upgrades, such as furniture and décor, are not eligible under the program guidelines.
All applications will undergo a thorough review by the MEDC, and final fund disbursement will require Marlin City Council approval. In addition, grantees are expected to complete projects within 12 months of approval and maintain the improvements for a minimum of three years.
