Falls County under burn ban

County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse in Marlin on Aug. 12 with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were F.A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4).  Milton Albright (Pct. 1) participated via phone conference.

Commissioners agreed to place Falls County under burn ban. Allowing for exemption for any burns supervised by authorized Volunteer Fire Department.

Jay Kingston, District Extension Director Central District 8, provided the annual Texas A&M AgriLife Extension report by noting the local area is doing a great job especially in the 4-H Youth Development where Falls County excelled at state and national levels. Others include the Chilton Family Health Expo Event, Passenger Safety KidSafe and Chilton Booster Seats and SNAP-Ed Eating Smart. Commissioners approved the purchase of backpacks for Chilton’s 2nd Annual Family Health & Back to School Expo.

In other matters, a brief overview concerning Premier Broadband applying for a Texas Boot 2 grant by company representative. Commissioners approved a change in the agreement between the county and Mundo & Associates, Inc. re: TPWD Boating Access Ramp Grant Application, which will be located at the Falls on the Brazos. 

Through SB22 funds, approved was the purchase of computer-related equipment, training for the Sheriff department and two copy machines. The SB22 funds will not cover the copiers.

Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge Administrator, presented updates on bridge repairs. The Commissioners approved the Cadence Bank lease agreement for a Mower Max shredder/tree trimmer and a tractor trailer with belly dump. A surplus equipment online auction was discussed.

Corrections were noted on the proposed 2024-25 budget. Commissioner Green moved to approve the paying of bills, seconded by Commissioner Wuebker, motion carried. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved. The next Commissioners meeting is Aug. 26 at 9 a.m.
