Hats off to MISD students
MISD students gave a whole new meaning to “cafeteria food.”
They prepared dishes on day one that left the aroma of an Italian restaurant in the halls and day two, a “Neighborhood hamburger joint.” The students participated in a tasting and cooking class, a collaborative effort between Chef David of Southwest Food Service Excellence (SFE) and Marlin ISD.
Approximately 20 7th-12th graders attended the sessions focused on cooking and tasting meals based on healthy and delicious school lunch options. They were afforded the opportunity to explore non-traditional spices and seasonings and prepare dishes utilizing fresh vegetables.
Shavonne Young is the district Food & Nutrition Director. Special thanks to Ortega McDavid, administrator/teacher for overseeing the collaboration.
