Haynes Resigns as Head football Coach
Marlin, Texas (November 20, 2020): The Marlin Independent School District announces David Haynes has resigned his duties as Head Football Coach, effective immediately. Coach Haynes has been with the district since 2018 and will remain as a physical education teacher. The Bulldogs went 4-5 this past season and played in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Prior to joining Marlin ISD, Coach Haynes served as the Assistant Head Coach and special teams coordinator at Connally High School, with additional coaching stints at Gatesville, McGregor, and Killeen Shoemaker high schools.
“I am proud of the effort made by our young men this season, which led to a team turn-around,” said Coach Haynes.
Superintendent Darryl Henson thanks Coach Haynes for his years of service to the Marlin High School football program. “I appreciate David’s commitment to the Bulldog football program over the past two seasons. David is a man of high character and is a respected educator in Marlin ISD.”
Charles Hitchens will serve as the interim Head Coach until a permanent replacement is hired. Coach Hitchens, a Marlin High School alum, served as the offensive coordinator this past season. “I have confidence that Coach Hitchens will continue to lead our football program in the right direction during this transition,” said Dr. Henson. Coach Hitchens and Athletic Director Sheila Henderson will meet over the next few days to outline the goals and expectations of the immediate future.
The district will immediately begin searching for a new Head Football Coach, who will also serve as the Assistant Athletics Director, overseeing all sports, athletes, and coaches.
