Marlin ISD gets updates on construction projects
The Marlin ISD School Board of Managers (BOM) met Monday, Oct. 21, at the Marlin Middle School Library. In the absence of the president, Secretary Byrleen Terry presided over the meeting. The Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Rosalyn Dimerson, Marsha Ridlehuber, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools. Managing Conservator Dr. Rolando Trevino was in attendance.
Dr. Stacy Parker presented the Lone Star Governance Student of the Month to 8th grader Ian Aguilar and Lone Start Governance Teacher of the Month to Lamar Jones, CTE Construction instructor.
The Board of Managers went into closed session (a) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include consideration of possible appointees to Marlin ISD Board of Trustees single member districts 2,3,4, and 5, (b) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.071, deliberation regarding current litigation, and (c) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 552.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include Superintendent’s Evaluation and Contract.
The open session resumed with Superintendent’s Reports.
Jesse Bustamante, Chief Operating Officer, presented Bond 2022 updates. The press box structural steel columns and beams and flooring are completed. Presently, plans are to host the Homecoming game and festivities at Legion Field. Safety measures will be taken. The 300-pound Bulldog statue is ready to be delivered however, additional construction to house the mascot is incomplete. As reiterated by Dr. Henson, “Legion Field is still considered an active construction site.” Bustamante noted the high school construction should be completed by June 2025. There will be a kick-off for the gym work.
Indicating the students are on target to meet goals, the Lone Star Governance Goal Progress Measures and Vision 2025 Key Strategic Measures in reading and math were reported by Niki Edwards. The classroom walk-thru continues.
The annual evaluation of the ESL/Bilingual report noted an estimated 21 percent Bilingual students with two certified teachers. During the Teacher Incentive Allotment update, Karla Sparks, Region 12 Assistant Superintendent of Talent, Strategic Leadership, reviewed Teacher Incentive Funding (TIF) Grant, a program that provides grants to support performance-based compensation for teachers and principals in schools with high needs.
The TIF aims to attract top talent to high-need schools, improve student achievement, and reform compensation systems. Dr. Henson introduced Winnette Outland, Sharon Tomlinson and Debra Trotter as interested applicants as Board of Managers.
Consent agenda included: 1) Financial Report (accounts accrued $1.9 million in interest), 2) Campus Improvement Plan -Marlin Opportunity Center which allows opportunities for students to catch-up), and 3) Vendor Contract: Maintenance & Transportation Operations Facility (MTOF) Site-work Project and Electric Feed Project. Phase 2 will include bus fleet housing. In addition, the budget amendments, minutes from two previous meetings and the approval of the Superintendent’s Evaluation and Contract were approved. Misty Ehlers moved to approve, seconded by Marsha Ridlehuber, the motion carried.
