Marlin Volunteer Fire Department conducts training for grass fires

Monday June 17, Marlin Volunteer Fire Department conducted training to prepare members for grass fire season.

Training officers Michael Smallridge and John Trimble arranged for all newer members to participate in a simulated grass fire at Marlin High School parking lot.

This allowed hands on time using the nozzle to get water onto a pretend fire, driving a fire truck in a stressful environment, and practicing getting water to a scene.

Grass Fires are the most common emergency MVFD responds to.  Department leadership predicts that we may see more grass fires this season due to the recent heavy rains.  That sounds backwards, but the rains brought tall, thick grass.  And as it dries out, there will be more grass than normal to burn and spread.

Donations of Gatorade or snacks are always welcomed by the department.
