MISD board hears updates on construction projects

The Marlin ISD Board of Managers heard updates on the bond issue and construction along with several other topics during its regular meeting on Nov. 18.

President Billy Johnson presided. The Board of Managers present were Rosalyn Dimerson, Misty Ehlers, Marsha Ridlehuber, Byrleen Terry and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Darryl Henson. Dr. Rolando Trevino, TEA School Conservator, was in attendance.

The Lone Star Governance Student of the Month was presented to Austin Crompton, 8th grade; and Teacher of the Month to Rhonda Milton, Lead Teacher. 

During Superintendent’s Reports Jesse Bustamante shared Bond 2022 updates. 

Site plans are in its final stage of development. An additional gym with a weight room will be built adjacent to the present gym which will include various amenities to include a private area for referees. The stadium press box is at 97 percent completion. 

Vision 2025 includes recruitment club fairs each semester and branding identity. Two new offerings include “Roving Chefs” and “Sideline Bull Pups (ball boys).

Continuing with the Superintendent’s Reports, J. Adam LeJeune shared a proposal for a Bright Watch Camera system for Marlin Elementary. 

Niki Edwards, Chief Academic Officer, presented updates on English as a Second Language. She noted the importance of teacher support, vocabulary support, academic language support and peer-to-peer support. 

Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson congratulated Mrs. Edwards and team for the “Emerging Bilingual” system of monitoring. A tracking chart has been developed to identify and monitor the performance of the students.

“Based on other matrix, a significant amount of growth has demonstrated success academically in the district,” Henson said.

Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Stacy Parker, stated that local, state and federal revenue is accruing. She noted the local food service revenue is already 44 percent of the projection in cafeteria sales. Debt collection from the Falls County Tax office continues to exceed revenue.

Byrleen Terry moved to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Marsha Ridlehuber, the motion carried. The next meeting is Monday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m.
