MISD Class of 2023 has 100 percent graduation rate

For the third year in a row, Marlin Independent School District is one of the only school districts in the state of Texas with a 99.9 percent economically disadvantaged population to achieve a 100 percent graduation rate. The graduation, which was initially postponed to allow students additional time to meet necessary requirements, is being held on June 22, marking a triumphant moment for the entire district.

“This is a significant milestone for Marlin ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson said. “It underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting every student in reaching their full potential. We firmly believe in maintaining high standards and accountability within our school system. This 100 percent graduation rate reaffirms our belief that when we do this, our students rise to the challenge and exceed our expectations.”

This achievement is a testament to Marlin ISD’s holistic approach to student achievement, which includes maintaining academic standards, consistent attendance, and comprehensive support systems. The district’s commitment to high standards has proven to be a driving factor behind its success, and was demonstrated when the district achieved a “B” rating last year after being a failing school district for ten years, marking the biggest achievement gains in the state.

The postponed graduation allowed additional time for students to improve their grades and attendance, with educators providing support and resources to ensure that all students had the opportunity to succeed.

“Our goal was to leave no student behind, and we succeeded,” shared Chief Academic Officer Nikisha Edwards. “Today, we reap the fruits of our collective effort as we celebrate a 100 percent graduation rate.”

As Marlin ISD looks to the future, the district remains committed to keeping expectations high and holding students accountable for their learning. The district will continue to build upon its successes and look for ways to further support students in their academic journeys.
