Rep. Orr appointed to House committees on appropriations; culture, recreation & tourism

The Speaker of the Texas House announced committee assignments for the 89th Legislative Session recently. The selection process included the Speaker meeting with individual members and placing 149 representatives into 30 committees.

The selections are based on seniority and the discretion of the Speaker. For the first time in Texas history, all standing House Committees are chaired by Republicans, and all committees and subcommittees are comprised of Republican majorities.

Rep. Angelia Orr was selected to serve on the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Culture, Recreation & Tourism.

“I am deeply honored to once again be appointed to the House Committee on Appropriations, which is responsible for developing our state’s $330 billion budget,” said Orr. “Last session I had the opportunity to serve on this committee and gain a firsthand understanding of the extensive budget writing process. With this experience I look forward to working alongside my colleagues as we develop a conservative state budget that addresses the needs of the families in House District 13 and across our great state.”

The Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism oversees agencies including the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Texas Historical Commission, and the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office. “Serving on the Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee will provide me the opportunity to work on issues I am passionate about and that positively impact House District 13,” said Orr. “From hunting, fishing and state parks, to history, music and the arts, this committee manages the rich heritage and treasured resources of Texas, and I am grateful for the responsibility entrusted to me.”

Rep. Orr is currently serving in her second term as State Representative. House District 13 includes Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Leon, and Limestone Counties and a portion of McLennan County.
