Water restrictions implemented while city works on main break

From the City of Marlin:

On July 6, 2024 Susan Byrd, Mayor of Marlin, Texas, issued a Disaster Declaration and requested assistance from Governor Abbott. All of Marlin City squads, along with engineers from state agencies, have been working diligently to locate the leak that is causing the extreme water loss of approximately three million gallons of water per day. To put water loss into perspective, the entire City of Marlin uses, on average, two million gallons of water a day.

Mayor Susan Byrd strongly recommends Marlin residents to report any stagnant or running water in the City of Marlin or Falls County to the Police Dispatch Office -- (254) 883-9255 -- who will forward the information to the water crews. City Public Works. The Police Department Dispatch Office has no information on updates on the water situation and does not have a timeline for resolution of the current water crisis. Therefore, be aware that dispatchers are only there to report potential water leaks and emergencies.

City squads will continue to work on leak issues this week. So be patient as limbs removal, road repairs, etc. will be delayed until the leaks that cause our city's problems are resolved. Please note that Coleman Street behind H.E.B. Grocery Street will be closed for repairs to the water main for several days..

As a result of Hurricane Beryl's anticipated rainfall, leak projects and others may be delayed. So again, we ask for your patience. Public Works and Water Plant teams met this afternoon to discuss all issues and make a plan for implementing a proposed strategy to resolve current water problems.

Remember Mayor Byrd has issued a Stage 4 Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Order. Please remember in everything you do our community must conserve water to the best of our ability. The Police Department has been instructed to issue citations to anyone violating Stage 4 of the Water and Drain Conservation Contingency Plan.

Finally, Mayor Byrd wishes to express her gratitude to the water distribution workers and volunteers this afternoon. The City of Marlin is blessed to have employees that care about this community and its citizens.
