Last winter when all the leaves were missing from the trees a surprise was found. A siren was spotted in the trees on Golden Lane. The siren is a Thunderbolt 1003 Civil Defense siren and the inside components are from 1974. People believe that the sirens were disabled sometime between 1990’s and 2000. Once upon a time there were two sirens in Marlin. The locations for the sirens were on Golden Lane and Newsome Street. Nobody knows what happened to the siren on Newsome Street. It just went missing. Why the sirens were taken out of service is not known either. There are a number of factors that could have killed the siren. The Marlin Fire Department has been researching whether it would be cheaper to replace the parts, which could be obsolete or to replace the siren for the one of three needed. Either way the Marlin Fire Department is committed to making home and public safety a number one concern.
