Telephone outage horrifies HomePlace
Two weeks ago Friday, the day dawned gloriously. I’d finished writing the column due and even had time left for a round or two (three, four...) of computer games before I did morning chores. Good thing the day had such a delightful start, because a terrible tragedy occurred. About 1 p.m. the internet stopped working, and the phone had nothing to say, not even a dial tone. No choice but to wade through the automatic answering system to report the outage. I got as far as selecting the correct choices, typed the account number correctly and hit #. I’d disconnected myself, so had to start over. Grumpy doesn’t begin to cover it.
