Hanging in there

The Marlin Lady Bulldogs had a good week of hard work this past week. They put in the time and effort in practice as they readied themselves for a tough week of games.  

They played well in their match against the Ladies from McGregor on Friday but could not find the right level of play early enough. In a big district match up the Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start but played better as the matches progressed. They lost game one 25-12 but rebounded to play better in game two.

Although they would lose 25-14 you could see their intensity level and their comfort level improve.  

Game three was a dogfight until the very end as the Lady Bulldogs matched Mc-Gregor point for point before finally bowing out 25-20. Coach Kanigo received some strong play from her entire squad and was more than pleased with their effort. She was especially proud of several younger players who continue to help build the future of the program.

Sophomore Danielle Nobles, who is the Lady Bulldogs middle blocker, had a nice match with 6 blocks on defense and 3 kills to help the offense. Another sophomore, setter Kerirea Davis had 3 kills and 5 big assists that led to points for the team. Meanwhile, freshman Aleighseya Washington helped spark both the defense and offense with her 12 digs and 3 kills.

Overall it was a good performance for the young team as they continue to improve with each match they play. The development of the younger talent bodes well for the future of the Lady Bulldog program. Coach Kanigo is looking forward to the future of her team based on the athleticism and work ethics of the young ladies involved.

The team has a big match this Tuesday against Bruceville-Eddy. On Friday they travel to Whitney for another key district match.
