Recycled eyeglasses give others new life
Did you know that the lack of eyeglasses denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment and a better quality of life? Sadly, an estimated 120 million people (World Health Organization Statistics) are visually impaired because of uncorrected far and near sightedness. Almost all cases can be corrected and normal vision can be restored with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery.
Within our Marlin community, the Lions Club help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the city, county, Texas, country, and the world! But, Lions need your help. Won’t you take out those spare eyeglasses and donate them to the Lions Club?
What happens when you donate your used sunglasses or eyeglasses, you ask? Here is the journey of recycled eyeglasses.
- The Lions Club collects used eyeglasses at various Downtown Marlin locations, for example, Falls County Samaritan House, Edward Jones Investments, and more.
- The eyeglasses are shipped to the nearest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where trained volunteers sort, clean and determine the prescription strengths of the eyeglasses.
- Volunteers at the recycling center carefully package the prepared eyeglasses and store them until they are required for eyeglass- dispensing missions. Eyeglasses that are not suitable for reuse are.....
