2020 A&M Campus Muster Cancelled
Texas A&M University officially canceled the Campus Muster this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
Falls County A&M Club will honor that decision and cancel our local event, previously scheduled for Tuesday, April 21.
Muster is celebrated on San Jacinto Day, April 21 and is one of Texas A&M’s greatest traditions.
Texas A&M is in its “Second Century of Greatness.” During the last 100 years, Texas A&M has grown from a small Land Grant College to one of the leading research and educational institutions in the nation.
Aggie Muster dates back to 1883 and has been held annually since. More than 400 Musters will be held around the world, wherever Texas A&M former students live or work. During wars, Aggies mustered in foxholes, on the battlefield, aboard ships, in airplanes, and in medical hospitals.
In World War II, a Muster was held on Corregidor Island shortly before the Japanese captured it in 1942. Every Muster ceremony is the same. Texas Aggies pay their respects to all those who are absent because of death since the last Muster. The names of the honored dead are called from the Muster Roll.
To honor the deceased, a friend will answer, “HERE,” symbolizing that their memory lives on in the hearts of Aggies everywhere.
Muster is more than a ceremony; it is also a way for Aggies to renew their loyalty and unity which constitutes the foundation of their friendship for each other and love and devotion for Texas A&M. . Muster is open to all former students and their families, current students, parents of students, and friends of Texas A&M.
The March 1923 Texas Aggie urged, “If there is an A&M man in one hundred miles of you, you are expected to get together, eat a little, and live over the days you spent at the A&M College of Texas.”
Sadly, we must treat this year differently because of the virus, however, Muster Roll Call will still take place this year.
The event has been held digitally on Apr. 21 by the Association of Former Students since 2018 and features the name of each of the 1,600 Aggies listed on the Muster Roll Call. The Association says the event will stream live on AggieNetwork.com.
