Lady Bulldogs come up short against Rosebud-Lott
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs volleyball team came up short against the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars, as they were swept 3-0 on Friday night.
The first two points of the first set went to Rosebud-Lott. The Lady Cougars jumped up to a 6-1 lead, which was soon followed by a Rosebud-Lott ace to give Marlin an 8-1 deficit. The deficit for the Lady Bulldogs increased to 11-2, but Marlin kept fighting and came up with an ace by Shawna Robinson (4) to make the score 11-5. The Lady Cougars began to try and pull away and their lead became 14-6. Marlin would come up with an impressive block by Aaryha Johnson (11) for a 14-7 deficit. The Lady Cougars would pull away once more and expand their lead to 22-8 lead, and went on to win the first set 25-9.
The first two points of the second set went to Rosebud-Lott. The set stayed even until Rosebud-Lott took an 8-5 lead. The Lady Cougars would increase their lead to 11-8, then came up with an ace to make the score 13-8. The Marlin deficit eventually went to double digits at 19-9, and they would lose the second set 25-11.
The first two points of the third set went to Rosebud-Lott. The Lady Cougars put Marlin in a 5-2 deficit, then it expanded to 9-3. Marlin came back and made the score 12-8, but Rosebud-Lott responded with two straight points for a 14-8 lead. The Lady Bulldogs would get a big block from Arrihanna Johnson (8) for a 14-9 deficit, but Rosebud-Lott would continue to stay aggressive and take a 17-11, then their lead grew to 21-13.
Marlin continued to fight and came up with a block from Aaryha Johnson for a 23-14 score. Marlin tried to rally all the way back and made the score 23-17, but the Lady Cougars fended off their attack and won the third set 25-19.
After playing the Riesel Lady Indians on Tuesday, the next game for Marlin will be against the Bremond Lady Tigers. The game will be on Friday at Bremond and is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
