Cougars fall to Leon in season opener
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars football team kicked off their new season by traveling to Jewitt to take on the Leon Cougars last wee.
Rosebud-Lott fell to Leon in a tough hard fought game, losing 27-21 in overtime.
Rosebud-Lott came out of the gate slowly as they fell into a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter. The Rosebud-Lott defense broke that drought with a fumble recovered by Yahir Mendoza, who ran it all the way back for a touchdown to make the score 14-7. Rosebud-Lott tied up the game at 14 in the second quarter with a 17 yard touchdown run by Carson Kahlig.
In the third quarter, Rosebud-Lott took their first lead of the game with an incredible 65 yard touchdown run by Jamarquis Johnson to make the score 21-14. Leon then tied the game back at 21 with a 9 yard touchdown run.
There was no score in the fourth quarter, which took the game into overtime. Leon struck first with a 6 yard touchdown run to end the game 27-21.
Pryce Rabroker completed 50 percent of his passes for 64 yards in the game. Carson Kahlig played well with 31 rushing yards on three carries and a touchdown along with 17 receiving yards. Jamarquis Johnson had a great game, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown along with 17 receiving yards. The defense had a good game, allowing 72 passing yards.
They were led by Daniel Rodriguez with 10 tackles on the day along with Yahir Mendoza with the fumble returned for a touchdown.
Up next for Rosebud-Lott, they will travel to take on the Wortham Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
