Lady Bulldogs season ends in Regional Semi-Finals
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs basketball team had their playoff push come to an end over the weekend. They traveled to Athens High School for the Regional Semi-Finals to take on the Douglass Lady Indians. Marlin was defeated by Douglass, losing 45-36.
The first quarter was very even as neither team could pull away early. The Lady Bulldogs gained some separation with a three pointer from Kya Mitchell (1) for a 10-7 lead, then Douglass came back and tied the score at 12. The first quarter ended with Marlin slightly ahead 14-12.
The Lady Indians started the second quarter strong with an 11-0 surge to go ahead of Marlin 23-14. The Lady Bulldogs broke the drought with a three pointer from Mitchell to make the score 23-17. Marlin stayed aggressive with a layup by Shawna Robinson (4) for a 25-20 deficit. Marlin closed the gap with a big three pointer by Aaria Johnson (2) to tighten the score 25-23, and went into halftime trailing 26-23.
The first points for Marlin in the third quarter came from a layup by Mitchell to make it a 27-25 deficit. The Lady Bulldogs tied the score at 29 on a clutch layup by Robinson, but Douglass responded with a 6-0 run to retake the lead 35-29. The third quarter ended with Marlin behind 38-29. The first points of the fourth quarter came from a layup by Aaryha Johnson (3) to make it a 38-31 deficit. Marlin tried their best to rally back, but Douglass kept Marlin in check to defeat the Lady Bulldogs 45-36 and bring their amazing season to an end.
With this heartbreaking loss, Marlin now finishes their season with an excellent record of 27-4 and a district record of 13-1.
