Marlin EDC announces approval of Business Improvement Grant
The City of Marlin has announced the approval of the Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Program by the Marlin City Council during the meeting held on June 11.
This program, spearheaded by the Marlin 4-B Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), aims to foster the refurbishment, beautification, and redevelopment of local businesses, enhancing the overall aesthetic and economic appeal of Marlin.
The BIG Program is designed to support expanding and developing new and existing business enterprises within the city. By providing financial assistance in the form of matching funds, the MEDC seeks to encourage business owners to invest in their properties, thereby improving the visual character of the community and promoting economic growth.
Key Highlights of the Business Improvement Grant Program:
• Financial Support: The MEDC will provide up to 50% in matching funds via reimbursement for qualifying improvement projects. The maximum grant award is $2,500 per applicant.
• Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, businesses must be legal entities with appropriate licenses to operate within the City of Marlin. If the business rents space, the property owner's authorization is required.
• Project Scope: Eligible projects include exterior structural improvements, signage, lighting, door/window replacements, landscaping, and parking facilities. All projects must comply with the City of Marlin Codes and Ordinances.
• Application Requirements: Applicants must submit a detailed description of the proposed improvements, including cost estimates and before-and-after photos. Grant funds are reimbursed upon verification of completed work.
• Grant Limitations: Businesses cannot receive more than one grant within six months. Additionally, if improvements are removed or altered within three years, the grant amount may need to be reimbursed to the MEDC.
“The Business Improvement Grant Program is a significant step forward in our efforts to revitalize Marlin's commercial areas,” Mayor Susan Byrd said. “By supporting our local businesses, we are investing in the future of our community and creating a more vibrant and attractive city for residents and visitors alike.”
Business owners interested in applying for the BIG Program are encouraged to contact the Marlin Economic Development Corporation for more information and to obtain application forms. The MEDC is committed to assisting applicants throughout the process to ensure the successful implementation of their improvement projects.
