MISD grad named 2020 Rodeo Scholar
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo named 644 scholarship recipients on July 23, compromising the Area Go Texan, Exhibitor, Hildebrand Family, Houston Area, Military, School Art, Texas 4-H and Texas FFA Scholarships.
Brianna Ocampo, a 2020 Marlin Independent School District graduate, was named the Falls County winner for the Area Go Texan Scholarship 2020.
Ocampo was recognized her senior year for her commitment to Agriculture and Mechanics endeavors and was designated as an Honors student in the subject. She also received honorable mention in the Texas School Safety Center Essay Competition and was in FFA for three years.
She will be attending Texas A&M - College Station come fall. The salutatorian, who gave an incredibly moving speech at the 2020 graduation ceremony, will be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and plans to head to veterinary school following completion of her degree.
Ocampo received the scholarship for her superb essay writing entry, which succeeded in supplying her with a $20,000 scholarship, to be received over the course of four years.
The scholar has also received the Howdy and the Herman and Meta Van Scholarships. She is the first in her family to go to college and plans to make them even more proud with her future academic achievements.
