Bulldogs dominate in last non-district game
The Marlin Bulldogs challenged the Normangee Panthers Friday night in the final non-district match of the season. After a tough start, the roaring Bulldogs sent the felines running home by the end of the night.
The first quarter was stressful, with both teams putting in their best efforts to outwit the opposing players. The score came to 13-9 by the end of it, in favor of the Panthers. The Bulldogs didn’t let it get them down and succeeded in scoring an additional 22 points in the next quarter, surpassing Normangee by six points. The teams headed into halftime at 31-25, rearing to face off again in the next round.
The Panthers were lackluster throughout that section of the game though, while the tenured Marlin boys continued to give it their all. The Bulldogs were a full 12 points ahead when the buzzer sounded, leaving the score at 44-32. That extensive gap was the only thing that saved this victory in the final moments of the game, where Normangee players polished off their skills and pulled out a whopping 19 points in comparison to Marlin’s 12. The game came to a final tally of 56-51, a five-point difference.
Top scorers were sophomore Derion Gullette, with 15 points; junior Tremayne Richardson, with 12 points; and senior Tydae Mayes, with 10 points. Juniors Ty Harris and Tre Thomas scored eight points each, as well as each sunk two three-pointers throughout the match. Other notable stats include that Richardson successfully maneuvered four out of five free throws attempted, Gullette pulled out four rebounds, three def stops, two blocks and an assist, and Mayes completed a total of six assists, four rebounds, three def stops, and a single steal, but somehow still only had one turnover.
The Bulldogs sit at 5-5 after the home game versus the Normangee Panthers. Scores from the first district match on the season, where Marlin took on the Bremond Tigers, will be available next week.
