Bulldogs headed to playoffs after loss to Italy
The Marlin Bulldogs suffered a devastating loss against the Italy Gladiators Friday night. The game ended with a score of 61-6, leaving the Bulldogs (4-4) and second in district play. Despite the loss, they will continue to the playoffs.
The game began as Italy kicked off to Marlin, Italy making their first touchdown of the evening with 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.
Marlin was forced to punt to Italy after having the ball at their own 13-yard line. After taking back possession post- second touchdown from Italy, Marlin made it inside Italy’s 20 but time ran out before the bulldogs could score.
The second quarter was similar, with Tra Butler taking charge again this game to bring home the only score of the night. At 35-0, Butler successfully maneuvered a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown.
Halftime saw a score of 35-6 and by the end of the third quarter, Italy upped their game to 61-6. Despite multiple attempts to recover and a number of victorious fumble recoveries, the Gladiators wouldn’t let Marlin get anything else on the Board.
The Bulldogs will take on Bosqueville in the playoffs this Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Waco ISD Stadium. The winner of that game will go on to take on either Cooper or Trenton in the next round.
Tickets to the Bosqueville game will be sold on site or may be purchased online at wacoisd.org/athletics.
