Bulldogs fall to Crawford, ready for Riesel
The Marlin Bulldogs football team went on the road to face the Crawford Pirates on Oct. 7. They were defeated by Crawford 33-20.
The scoring started in the first quarter when Crawford scored on a 15-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. The next score came in the second quarter as Marlin scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Desmond Woodson to Zha’Mauryon Lofton to make the score 7-6 after a missed extra point. The Pirates extended their lead with a 22-yard touchdown run for a 14-6 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was all Crawford as they increased their lead to 21-6 on a 93-yard touchdown pass, then to 27-6 on a 3-yard touchdown run following a missed extra point. Marlin kicked off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run by Lofton for a score of 27-12 after a failed two point conversion attempt. Crawford responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown to make their lead 33-12 after a missed extra point. Marlin scored a touchdown on a 59-yard pass from Woodson to Lofton to make the score 33-20 after a successful two point conversion, which would end up being the final score.
Desmond Woodson played well, throwing for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Mario Hopwood had a great game, rushing for 75 yards. Zha’Mauryon Lofton was outstanding, catching five passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown.
The next matchup for the Marlin will be at home as they host the Riesel Indians. The game will be on Friday and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
