Bulldogs remain undefeated in district with win over Bremond
The Marlin Bulldogs handily defeated the Bremond Tigers on Friday night, winning 51-26 in a game where they never trailed.
Marlin got out of the gate strong, surging to an 11-0 start. Their defense had such a great start that they didn’t allow a point until a layup at the 4-minute mark to make the score 11-2. Marlin answered with a fastbreak layup by Jerry Willis (10) to take a 13-2 lead. The Bulldogs stayed aggressive with a three pointer by Jaidan Womack (11) for an impressive 18-4 lead. The first quarter ended with Marlin enjoying a huge lead 20-4.
The first points in the second quarter for Marlin came from a layup by Jaidan Womack for a commanding 22-5 lead. Bremond clawed their way back to make the score 22-15, but Marlin halted their scoring run with a layup by Roderick Suitors (3) to make it a 24-15 lead. Marlin went into halftime ahead of Bremond 28-15. Marlin picked up where they left off to start the third quarter with a basket by Jacorian Johnson (1) to double their lead 30-15. The Bulldogs continued to pull away with a successful three-point play by Willis for a dominating 38-19 lead. The third quarter ended with Marlin winning 42-23.
The first points in the fourth quarter came from a layup by Jaidan Womack to make the score 44-23. Marlin continued to extend their lead to 49-26 and would go on to win 51-26 in convincing fashion.
With this victory, Marlin has an overall record of 6-4 and an unblemished district record of 3-0.
After a road game with the Dawson Bulldogs on Tuesday, Marlin will host the Axtell Longhorns on Friday, Jan. 12, and tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
