Lady Bulldogs fall to Moody, sweep Meridian
On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs took on the Moody Lady Cats at home. They were swept 3-0, losing the first set 28-26, the second set 25-22, and the third set 25-19. The Lady Bulldogs did not play on Tuesday, Sept. 13, as it was their open date.
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs volleyball team hosted the Meridian Lady Jackets on Sept. 6. Marlin swept Meridian 3-0. The first two points of the first set went to Marlin. The set stayed even until Marlin gained a 7-3 lead. Meridian stormed back and made the score 10-8, then tied it at 11, then took the lead 12-11. Marlin retook lead 14-13 and extended it with a kill by Taylor Wright (9) for a 16-14 lead. That was soon followed with a block by Keundra Wilson (3) making it a 19-16 lead. The Lady Jackets came back and tied the set at 20 and took back the lead 21-20. The Lady Bulldogs tied the set at 23 on an ace by Wilson and they went on to win the first set 25-23.
The first point of the second set went to Marlin. The set stayed even until an ace by Aaryha Johnson (11) put the Lady Bulldogs up 9-6. The lead would grow to 15-12 on a monster kill by Shawna Robinson (4) and Marlin continued to increase their lead to 17-12 then to 21-14 off another kill by Robinson. Meridian didn’t quit and came back to make the score 23-20. The Lady Dogs would get a tip over kill by Arrihanna Johnson (8) for a 24-22 lead, and would win the second set 25-22 on an ace by Aaryha Johnson.
The first point of the third set went to Meridian. The Lady Bulldogs came right back and took a 6-2 lead that was aided by two straight aces from Wright. Marlins lead would increase to 9-4 then to double digits at 15-5 on a kill by Robinson. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pile on with two consecutive aces by Marielena Diaz (6) for a 17-5 lead. Meridian stormed back and made the score 19-14, but Marlin halted their momentum and got a clutch block from Aaryha Johnson for a 22-14 lead. The Lady Jackets tried to make another rally, but Marlin stayed strong and won the third set 25-18 to complete the sweep.
The next match for Marlin will be on the road against the Coolidge Lady Jackets. The game will be Friday, Sept. 16, and is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
