Lady Dogs fall to Moody in playoffs
The season ended for the Marlin Lady Bulldogs basketball team on Monday night in the first round of the playoffs.
The ladies traveled to University High School in Waco for the bi-district round of the playoffs. They took on the Moody Lady Bearkats, and were defeated 41-32 to bring their season to an end.
Marlin started the game slow, falling behind 7-0. At the 3 minute mark, Shawna Robinson (4) put Marlin on the scoreboard with a layup to make the score 7-2, which was soon followed with a three pointer by Taylor Wright (5) for a 7-5 deficit. Moody finished the quarter on a 4-0 run and went into the first quarter leading at 11-5.
The first quarter woes followed Marlin into the second quarter and they trailed 16-6. The Lady Bulldogs came back to life with a three pointer by Keundra Wilson (22) for a score of 18-9, which was followed a successful three point play by Robinson to tighten the deficit to 18-12. The Marlin run continued with two consecutive fastbreak layups by Aaria Johnson (2) then Wright to tie the game at 18. Marlin would take the lead 20-18 going into halftime off a buzzer beater by Wilson.
After a slow start to the third quarter, Marlin scored on a basket by Aaria Johnson for a 22-18 lead at the 5 minute mark. Moody clawed their way back and regained the lead 30-28. The third quarter ended with Marlin trailing 31-28. The fourth quarter for Marlin started with a layup by Aaryha Johnson (3) for a 33-30 deficit. Moody continued to stay ahead of the Lady Bulldogs and increased their lead to 38-30. Marlin would come up short and lose 41-32 to put an end to their season.
